Residential collection and other routes

The published 2026 MRC household hazardous waste service began May 6, with Wednesday hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The two special weekend dates, August 15 and September 26, have passed. The source does not state an end date for the Wednesday service, so check the current notice before travelling late in the season.

Commercial loads are excluded. Approved businesses transporting eligible residential waste for residents must complete the city approval process introduced May 1, 2026. Household paint can go to SARCAN depots; household and automotive batteries and electronics can go to the MRC seven days a week or SARCAN. Used oil, filters, antifreeze and containers have a seven-day MRC route.

Prepare containers and separate excluded items

Seal every container and label its contents. Transport containers may not be returned; gasoline containers will not be returned. Common accepted groups include labelled cleaners, aerosols, domestic pesticides, light bulbs, mercury items, oxidizers and eligible fuels. Most liquid containers must be 10 litres or smaller; gasoline is the specified 25-litre exception. Non-refillable cylinders have a five-kilogram maximum.

Do not bring construction debris, asbestos, biological waste, explosives, radioactive items, pharmaceuticals, railway ties, e-bike batteries or unlabelled containers through the ordinary program. Use the city Waste Wizard or the specialist route identified for that material. Do not pour chemicals down drains or onto land.
