Eligibility and planting space
A boulevard is public land beside private property. A request is assessed against nearby trees, boulevard width, intersections, signs and infrastructure. A tree is not guaranteed simply because there is an empty patch of grass.
Prepare a finished planting area at its final grade. Large rocks, landscape fabric, raised beds and artificial turf can make the location unsuitable. The city selects the tree species after inspection.

Inspection, planting and care
Requests are inspected in the order received between May and October. If the location works, the city leaves a notice and a green stake showing the proposed spot. Planting normally finishes by the end of October if there is no underground-utility conflict. Limited tree availability can move a request into the next year.
The city waters newly planted trees for at least three years and handles pruning and long-term maintenance. Extra resident watering during drought is encouraged. Keep grass, herbicide and trimmers away from the trunk. Keep mulch back from the bark.
